The Missing Layer in Addiction Recovery

Insights from the practice

Most people who struggle with addiction aren’t just fighting a substance. They’re fighting a deeper hole that the substance temporarily fills.

Drugs, alcohol, and other addictions feel powerful because they give access to states of energy, openness, and aliveness that are hard to reach any other way in normal life. That’s why they’re so attractive. They don’t just numb — for a while they restore something that deep down we know we lack. Life feels whole again. Possibilities open up. And most importantly, you feel more like yourself.

The problem is that addictions don’t create real vitality. They borrow from it. Over time, they drain the very reserves you need to feel okay without them. What starts as a way to feel better slowly becomes the thing that makes it harder and harder to feel good at all.

This is where most traditional approaches to addiction fall short. They focus heavily on stopping the behaviour and managing cravings, but they often don’t properly address the underlying depletion that’s driving it. When the internal resources haven’t been restored, staying off the addiction can feel like a constant battle of willpower rather than a natural return to feeling like yourself.

Addictions don’t create real vitality. They borrow from it. Over time, they drain the very reserves you need to feel okay without them.

Jing Return works at a different level.

This program focuses on working at the level of your Jing — your core vitality and foundational energy. When you work at this level, several things tend to shift on their own. Mood stabilises. Emotions return and harmonise. Sleep becomes deeper. The nervous system starts to settle. Many people describe it as finally having the capacity to show up as the person they actually want to be, instead of constantly fighting against old patterns or pretending to be someone else.

True recovery isn’t just the absence of the old behaviour. It’s the return of your energy, your clarity, and your ability to live as yourself without needing something external to feel okay.

If you’ve tried the usual approaches and still feel burned out… if you’ve stopped the substances but still don’t feel like yourself… or if the cycles you go through feel bigger than just “bad habits” — then there may be another layer worth addressing. One that doesn’t focus on what’s wrong with you, but instead works on nourishing who you actually are at the deepest level.
